Luke Lambert Chardonnay 2019

Luke sources his Chardonnay from the same vineyard as the Syrah, growing on a very thin top layer of volcanic soil over yellow clay with shattered rocks throughout. The very poor soil, high altitude and exposure to high winds make this an extreme low fertility site. The winemaking includes wild yeast fermentation, oxidative handling, lots of battonage, no temperature control and zero fining or filtration. This results in an understated yet fascinatingly complex wine that expresses savoriness before fruit. It’s a multifaceted wine that calls to mind the Jura as much as the Yarra but has a personality all its own.
